Capello Targets The World Cup
For England England's new manager,

Fabio Capello, believes he can guide the Three Lions to World Cup victory.

England's 61-year-old Italian coach Fabio Capello, who will be officially presented to the media at 13:00 GMT on Monday, has already outlined his vision for the England national team.

"My life could have been easy but I need a challenge - and the biggest challenge in football is to lift England to the stars," he told the News of the World.

"I will win the World Cup. If I didn't think that, I would not have taken the job. I would have continued playing golf.

"I will do everything I can to make the England team successful."

The former AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Real Madrid coach has also stressed: "This is the final appointment of my career. It would be nice to finish on a high. We want to do very well and there is a lot of expectation but I think with my team we will achieve great things.

"The challenge is difficult but one in which I have more preparation time."
Capello is understood to have been in the running for the England job seven years ago, before the FA chose Sven-Goran Eriksson.

"I came close once before but it didn't happen," recalled the Italian.

"This time it's become a reality.

"I'm going to come up against a different way of working in a country where football is like a religion. Everyone in England is asking why the national team is not winning."
